We were so dominant in the first half and that’s what makes this defeat an even harder pill to swallow. We could easily have been 3-0 up within the first 45 minutes. J Allen was pretty unfortunate to have his goal from a corner disallowed if you ask me. But well done Southampton. R Koeman was brave and made two substitutions bringing on S Mane and V Wanyama at half-time and his change of formation worked a peach for the Merries. J Klopp was brave too and placed his faith in M Skrtel to replace D Lovren after the first 45 minutes. But karma finally caught up with Skrtel when he was penalised for getting too tight on G Pelle although in all honesty the attempt to exchange jerseys was clearly mutual.
Anyway i think Klopp must have been very pleased with our first half because our transition play was really good. Defense to offense in an instance. Our 2nd goal was a long pass down the left by P Coutinho which D Origi ran onto. Showing good balance and pace Origi dribbled almost half the field before laying it off for D Sturridge who showed good footwork to fool R Betrand before hitting it into the far corner of the net. Two passes and a goal. At the 26th minute, Allen intercepted a pass in the middle of the field and suddenly we were three on two. Running with the ball down the middle Allen slipped in a good ball to the right for Sturridge in the penalty box. But Sturridge took it too far to the side and his subsequent right foot shot was much too weak. Either way that was good transition play again. One pass and a shot.
And on to some transfer rumours which are both pointless and so exciting. K Volland (23 years old) of Hoffenheim has a release clause of £14 million which is not too expensive. But the problem is that he has only scored 7 goals in 28 appearances this season and in his entire career he only has 34 goals in 132 appearances. However if you look at his playing positions at Hoffenheim you will realise that he is often their lone strike but when he plays on the left flank he seems to be pretty effective.
